Land and Sea: Experts Collaborate
Italian-built and designed by French naval architect Guillaume Verdier, who is known for his work on high-performance sailing yachts, particularly those utilizing hydrofoil technology. Verdier has designed a foil on the canting keel that pushes the vessel out of the water at fast speeds as the support for one of the foils, with the other two contact points being a foil on the rudder and two lateral foils. It is designed to fly on just three points of contact.
Drawing inspiration from our hypercar, three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Energy self-sufficient, powered by renewable energy sources. no combustion engine. Instead it will operate exclusively using renewable energy sources, including solar, wind and kinetic energy. The foils, keel and rudder, as well as the full suite of on-board computers and instruments will be generated autonomously while under sail. According to Ferrari, they are also driving the development of on-board control technology.
Experts Heading Up The Hypersail Project
Behind the helm of the Ferrari of the sea is Team Principal and seasoned sailor Giovanni Soldini, who enjoys sporting challenges in the world of sailing. He is an ocean navigator and a pioneer in the development of innovative technology and trim for racing yachts, he has over thirty years of solo and crewed ocean racing. Soldini comments. “From a nautical perspective, it’s innovative in both its structure and how it will fly; on the systems front, Ferrari’s contribution is driving the development of onboard control technology that has never been seen before. To prepare as well as we can for the variability and force of the phenomena and conditions encountered at sea, our top priority is to strike the right balance between the pursuit of extreme performance and maximum reliability.”
Also pioneering the Hypersail project is Ferrari Chairman, John Elkann, Matteo Lanzavecchia, Chief Technology Officer, and Marco Ribigini, Team Leader.
“Hypersail is a new challenge that pushes us to go beyond our boundaries and expand our technological horizons." Says John Elkman.
The name Hypersail honours Ferrari’s racing and hypercar heritage. It is the ultimate expression of performance on the water with unparalleled levels of speed and endurance.
When will the Ferrari hypersail be ready?
The launch and initial sea trials of the hypersail are scheduled for 2026.
While this is Ferrari’s first foray into designing offshore racing boats, lots of other supercar names have been clamoring to make their mark in the superyacht and superboat industry, including Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti, and Jaguar.
